Inside the Mind of a Genius, a documentary by Nathan Cahen produced by Cliché: two episodes inside the head of Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, France’s top chess player, at the Paris Grand Chess Tour, between the pressure of the clock, a rapid event gone wrong and a blitz comeback to second place, with Carlsen, Nakamura and Kasparov on camera. The music had to make audible what cannot be seen: a brain computing.

Ten tracks composed and recorded in our studio, seventeen minutes of original music. 64 Squares, Deep Mind, Processing Power, CPU Overload, Blitz Lord, Nemesis: each piece carries a state of the player, from focus to overload, from blitz composure to the duel with the rival, up to the main theme, Deep Mind, in an orchestral version. Around the score, First Frame also designed and animated the film’s ranking boards, burned in the English subtitles and post-produced the teaser.
